Ghana Police Arrest Police and Military Personnel in Massive $450,000 Gold Robbery Syndicate
The Ghana Police Service has busted a major robbery syndicate that includes active-duty security personnel. The criminal network was exposed following a high-stakes gold heist in Accra, leading to a major police announcement on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The $450,000 Set-Up
The incident unfolded when an Ivorian gold investor, Mousa Bamba, filed a formal complaint. He was lured to Dzorwulu in Accra under the impression that he was finalizing a deal to purchase 6 kilograms of gold valued at $450,000.
Instead of a legitimate business transaction, he was met by suspects posing as CID operatives and military personnel who robbed him at gunpoint.
The Suspects Arrested
Following an intense intelligence-led operation, seven key suspects were rounded up by the police. The personnel implicated in the network include:
Military Personnel: Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko.
Police Officers: Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga (the police officers have since been immediately interdicted).
The civilian accomplices arrested alongside them are Mohammed Umaro, Gabriel Sewornu, Justin Oduro, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
A Nationwide Network
According to the police, this syndicate is responsible for a series of criminal attacks targeting cash, gold, and mercury across multiple major hubs, including Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi.
All suspects are currently in tight custody as investigations continue, and the police are actively hunting for the remaining members of the network.
